OXBOW FARM

~ OWNED AND WORKED BY THE SEIBEL FAMILY ~

~SINCE 1961~

Maw an Paw

The farm is located on the James River in Botetourt County, Virginia. The river surrounds the farm like an oxbow, hence the name Oxbow Farm. We milked Holsteins until 1980 when Pops decided he had enough. He still raises beef and hay for feed.  Mom and Pops raised 5 chaps, 4 boys, 1 girl or should I say "hired help" (grin).

The tressel spans the James River from Oxbow Farm near Eagle Rock, VA.

The Train

Out past Carl and Janie's house
There is a place called the Bluffs.
It looks out over the James, and Oxbow Farm,
And the train tracks run underneath your feet.
A tunnel is cut right in the heart of the stone,
And the Chessie coal cars flow through the rock.
When the train approaches from the north,
Long before it emerges from the tunnel
And crosses the river, you hear it.
Hear it not just with your ears,
But in the small bones of your feet,
Up the marrow of your thighs;
It speaks to the length of your spine,
And encircles the skull; you tremble with sound.
The train hurtles out between your feet,
Travels over the trestle spanning the James,
And following the shore, heads south.
